1. DIGITAL COMPUTER
Digital
computer work with digits. These computers work with discrete data. Accuracy of
digital computers is high. They have high storage in their memory. Digital
computer is multi-purpose and programmable and hence used for general purpose.
These computers are totally flexible and can be re-programmed.
2. ANALOG COMPUTER
Analog
computers work with natural or physical values. These computers work with the
continuous data. Accuracy of analog computer is low. They don’t have storage or
posses less memory for storage. Analog computers are used for special purpose
only. Cost of the analog computer is low.
3. HYBRID COMPUTER
A
hybrid computer is a combination of both analog and digital computer. They have
both system in one device. Hybrid computers are used in weather forecasting.
1. SUPER COMPUTERS
They
are most powerful and expensive computers. They have extremely large storages
capacities and processing unit is at least 10 times faster than other computers.
They are big machines. They can be handled by computer engineer only. Some of
them are: CRAY, NEC Super SXII, CYBER 205 etc
2. MAINFRAME COMPUTERS
They
are medium or large size machines, made of several units connected together.
They were used in the big organizations and government departments for large
scale data processing.
3. MINI COMPUTERS
They
are like small mainframes. They can be also maintained and operated by general
people. They are generally applied to perform smaller work in commercial and
government organization.
4. MICRO COMPUTER
They
are the smallest general purpose computers. They contain a small CPU called
micro processor. Micro computers are being manufactured in large scale as
compared to other types of computer. they are generally known as personal
computers(pcs).
1. INTERNATIONAK BUSINESS MACHINE
PERSONAL COMPUTER [IBM PC]
IBM
is the one of the leading companies of the world in manufacturing computers,
which was established in 1924 in USA . The micro computers that are
manufactured by IBM are called IBM PC. These computers are more reliable and
durable.
2. IBM COMPATIBLES
IBM
couldn’t produce more computers for all the people. So they sell the
architecture and principles of making computer. Thus many computers came in
market with different branded names but all are based on IBM principle.
3. APPLE COMPUTERS
The
computer manufactured by Apple Company with different architecture is called an
apple computer. This company was established in 1970s. They had their own hardware and software. Apple Company
manufactured new brand of computer probably known as Macintosh.
1. XT COMPUTERS
The
computers which have 8086 microprocessor or 8086 microprocessor are called XT
computers. They have processing speed of 4.77MHZ and
they are comparatively slower in speed. They cannot run advance version of
software or programs.
2. AT COMPUTERS
The
computers which have 80286 microprocessors are called AT computers. These
computers are faster than XT computers. The memory capacity of AT computers is
larger i.e. the RAM is of higher capacity. AT computers come in different
capacities and microprocessors like 80286, 80386, 80586(Pentium) and the latest
is Pentium-II. All most all the microcomputers used now days are AT computers.
3. PS/2 COMPUTERS
IBM
computers started manufacturing next models of computers in 1990. This model is
called as PS/2 model computer. Most of the computers manufactured after 1990,
including laptop computers belong to this model. It works like AT computers and
runs almost all software and programs.
